The Maxhaus Künstlerhaus Nordhalben is an artist residency in the Franconian Franconian Forest. The house offers professional artists from Germany a concentrated working stay in a quiet, rural environment. The residency is aimed at artists from all disciplines who wish to work on their own project for a clearly defined period of time. Living and working take place under one roof.
Residencies are possible for both individual artists and groups of up to four people. An important part of the residency is the exchange with the local people as well as the examination of the surroundings and landscape of the Franconian Forest. The residency is intended as a working stay with openness for encounters, insights into the working process and a final public presentation at the end of the residency.
Nordhalben is located in the natural area of the Franconian Forest in the Thuringian-Franconian Slate Mountains. The landscape is characterized by wooded mountain ranges, wide views and a special geological structure of slate and rock. The region is part of the former inner-German border strip and is now part of the “Green Belt”, a transnational nature and memorial area along the former border.
The Ködeltalsperre dam with its circular trail and wide views is located in the immediate vicinity. In the town itself there is a natural swimming pool, hiking and cycling trails and a variety of opportunities to spend time in the countryside and get away from everyday working life. The surroundings offer tranquillity, clear air and scenic expanses – ideal conditions for concentrated artistic work away from urban density.
