The artists’ town of Kalbe, an innovative project in the Altmark (Saxony-Anhalt) with the aim of countering demographic change through art and culture, awards scholarships for a working stay. In line with Joseph Beuys’ concept of social sculpture, the artists’ town of Kalbe sees itself as a place where the creative power of art is to be unleashed in order to build a free, sustainable society worth living in. Over a period of six weeks, national and international artists from all disciplines (visual arts, literature, performing arts, music, film, photography, media art, interdisciplinary projects) are invited to participate in such a social sculpture in Kalbe and to contribute their own project ideas. The scholarship includes: Free accommodation, temporary, extraordinary studios and workspaces, basic stock of tools and technical equipment, financing of a lump sum for travel expenses and, if applicable, a supplement to the visa fee (only for scholarship holders traveling from abroad) Artist sponsorship of a calf during the stay. Scholarship holder benefits: Participation in weekly studio tours with artist talks and presentation of their own work. Presence of the artist during the entire residency. In addition, there is the possibility to create further program items, e.g. in the form of an exhibition, performance, reading, workshop or other format. The call is aimed at: national and international artists, collectives and students of all disciplines: Visual arts, literature, performing arts, music, film, photography, media art, interdisciplinary projects, without age restrictions.
