The Frappant e. V. invites artists, curators, designers, architects, and
activists to submit their exhibition proposals for a show at the Frappant Gallery in 2027. The Frappant Gallery is a non-commercial exhibition space located within a larger, cooperatively managed center for alternative culture, education, the creative industries, and social issues in Hamburg-Altona.
We especially welcome applications from:
- with concepts that aim to bring together at least three artistic perspectives (Please note that solo exhibitions are not eligible for this open call); proposed by freelance curators;
- with approaches and projects that transcend genres or are spatially comprehensive (analog and digital);
- through transregional collaborations involving artists from Hamburg;
- exchange with other independent art and project spaces outside of Hamburg;
- with exhibition concepts that operate in an interdisciplinary manner across the fine arts, the performing arts, music, text/literature, urbanism, and social culture;
- projects that observe, critique, question, subvert, redesign, deconstruct, adopt feminist positions, and present perspectives that are alternative to the Western heteronormative viewpoint;
- planning for “special events” during the exhibition (performances, lectures, workshops, screenings, etc.)
Who can apply:
Professional artists, curators, designers, architects, and activists may exhibit at Frappant Galerie after submitting a well-developed, written exhibition proposal that has been approved by the Frappant exhibition team. Applicants must demonstrate a qualified artistic or curatorial practice.
