As of now, artists can once again apply for the Villa Massimo Rome Prize as well as for further scholarships abroad in Olevano Romano, Venice and Paris. Funding is available for exceptionally talented and qualified creative people in the fields of architecture, visual arts, literature and music. The scholarships allow for stays at the Villa Massimo in Rome (Rome Prize), the Casa Baldi in Olevano Romano, the German Study Center in Venice and the three federal studios at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. In principle, applicants should already have experienced supra-regional, ideally international visibility.
Minister of State for Culture and the Media Wolfram Weimer explains:
“The Rome Prize is a symbol of the European idea of art and freedom. Those who work in the residencies in Italy or France become part of a lively dialog between the cultures of Europe. The scholarships are beacons of our foreign cultural policy – and they show that Germany is constantly revitalizing its cultural heritage.”
Dr. Christine Regus, Secretary General of the Kulturstiftung der Länder (Cultural Foundation of the Federal States), comments: “The scholarships awarded by the federal and state governments are not only a recognition of extraordinary achievements. They serve the personal development and inspiration of artists in interdisciplinary and cross-border exchange. This is what makes these stays in Italy or France so valuable.”
The scholarship for the German Academy of Rome Villa Massimo (Rome Prize) is considered the most important award for German artists and artists working in Germany abroad. The scholarships for the German Academy Rome Casa Baldi in Olevano Romano, the German Study Center in Venice and the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris are also among the most important of their kind awarded by the Federal Republic of Germany each year. The institutions and scholarships are financed from the cultural budget of the Minister of State. The federal states contribute to the funding of artist scholarships at the Cité Internationale des Arts.
The Minister of State for Culture and the Media and the Cultural Foundation of the Federal States have been cooperating for many years in the annual awarding of scholarships abroad. As part of this cooperation, the Kulturstiftung der Länder carries out the application and selection process.
