Art in Architecture Competition for the New Building of the Bavarian Center for Family and Social Affairs in Nuremberg

The Nuremberg State Building Authority is announcing a restricted, single-phase art-in-architecture competition for a site in an outlying area, preceded by an open call for entries. Eligible to participate are professional artists and artist collectives who are citizens of the European Union (EU) at the time of application.

The application deadline is September 9, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (online).

The Free State of Bavaria has implemented a cohesive overall architectural concept at the corner of Roonstraße and Bärenschanzstraße in Nuremberg. Following the completion of the new building for the Bavarian Center for Family and Social Affairs in Middle Franconia (Roonstraße 22, 2023), a newly constructed parking garage and three existing buildings will come together to form a tranquil, well-proportioned ensemble. The central courtyard will now be permanently enhanced with a work of art (art in architecture) and designed as a place for interaction, reflection, and a pleasant atmosphere.

The Bavarian Center for Family and Social Affairs (ZBFS) is the central state agency within the jurisdiction of the Bavarian State Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Affairs. The ZBFS is responsible for numerous Bavarian and nationwide social benefits.

A total of 250,000.00 euros is available for the project. No expense allowances will be paid during the application process. In the competition phase, the selected artists will receive an expense allowance of 3,000.00 euros.
