Design competition 2026 // DESIGN OF AN IMPULSE AND RESONANCE PLACE IN THE CHURCH AREA

The ars LITURGICA initiative has been organizing artistic design competitions under the title ars LITURGICA since 2010. In each case, a design task from the sacred area is to be worked on: a liturgical device or ensemble of devices, liturgical clothing, a liturgical place, a liturgical book or an element of artistic decoration.
In previous competitions, an evangelist altar, a Lenten cloth and a presentation cross for liturgical use as well as a Christmas crib have been realized. The most recent competition was for the design of a Corona memorial.
The 2026 competition relates to the church of St. Dionysius in Nordwalde.
The parish has agreed to purchase the results of the competition for the place of inspiration and resonance in the church interior. The ars LITURGICA initiative supports the public relations work through publications, introductions and other offers of accessibility.
The celebration of worship, the church space and liturgical action in public live from the sensual quality of their design. The ars LITURGICA competition aims to raise awareness of this in a new way. We expect results at a high artistic level in a lively examination of contemporary languages of art and design.

Designers, designers and artists from independent and applied fields are invited to participate.
A total budget of up to €40,000 is available for the realization. In addition, prizes will be awarded for the designs, which are endowed as follows: 1st prize of €5,000, 2nd prize of €3,000, 3rd prize of €1,000
