How much art can fit on a 30 × 30-centimeter space?
With this question, the Galerieladen in Magdeburg-Buckau is launching a nationwide open call for its upcoming group exhibition “30 Squared.” Artists from all disciplines are invited to submit works that adhere to a clearly defined format: exactly 30 × 30 centimeters.
Whether painting, graphic art, photography, collage, textile art, or experimental works—all artistic techniques and media are accepted. The only requirement is that the works can be presented as wall-mounted pieces in the format 30 × 30 centimeters. Alternatively, objects and sculptures may also be submitted, provided they do not exceed the dimensions of 30 × 30 × 30 centimeters.
With this open call, the Galerieladen aims to show how differently artists respond to the same formal challenge. The prescribed square creates a common framework while also highlighting just how diverse contemporary art can be. We are looking for surprising, poetic, political, humorous, or experimental works that demonstrate the potential of the small format.
The exhibition is designed as a sales exhibition. Sold works can be purchased and taken home directly from the exhibition. As a result, the presentation remains dynamic throughout the exhibition period and is constantly changing.
The works are selected by the gallery shop managers in collaboration with a jury. The goal is to curate a diverse exhibition of contemporary artistic perspectives. Only original works of art will be exhibited.
Application deadline: September 21, 2026
