Artists-in-Residence 2026

Resonance – Artists-in-Residence 2026
Although the term “resonance” is deeply rooted in physics and music, it shapes our daily experience like almost no other word: We encounter resonance, we seek it out, we resonate with others, or we remain stuck in painful lack of resonance. Resonance is the invisible bridge between the self and the world. Even the philosophers of antiquity recognized in it far more than a purely acoustic phenomenon. For Pythagoras, everything in the cosmos sprang from a primordial vibration. In his vision of the music of the spheres, the celestial bodies, as they move through the universe, produce mathematically ordered tones that come together in perfect harmony—a cosmological principle that shaped our worldview for over two millennia: from Johannes Kepler’s search for the harmonies of the planetary orbits to the cosmic songs in the works of Dante, Shakespeare, and Goethe.

The Stoic school, too, viewed the universe as a single, living organism. Through the concept of the sympathy of all things, they described an organic interplay in which every change at one end of the world triggers an immediate resonance at the other end. It is the image of a resonating string: if you touch one, the other responds. The art of navigating turbulent times. Today we live in a world of ruptures, acceleration, and loud dissonances.

That is why we ask:

  • What kind of sound does art produce in our turbulent times?
  • As an artist, what resonates with you today?
  • What kinds of harmonies—or deep disharmonies—do your works reveal?
  • What kinds of spaces for resonance does your message create in society?
