Founded in 1983 with the idea of promoting ceramics as an independent art form and raising awareness of it through exhibitions and publications. This general objective—which did not aim to represent a shared artistic stance—sets Group 83 apart from other artist collectives. If one asks about the secret behind the group’s 42-year-long cohesion, it surely lies in the decision not to adhere to a unified artistic program. Each member had the freedom to develop individually in their art while upholding the group’s goals, which transcend any specific artistic agenda. A love of and dedication to ceramics is the glue that unites a number of individualists into a group. Group 83 is a network forged through friendship, with a sense of “we” arising from the diversity of artistic positions.

Clay isn’t just for making music; with its prehistoric roots, it’s a material used by humans that can be shaped into vessels, reliefs, and a wide variety of forms.
