The WIR Festival—and with it, its founder, our member Petra Reichenbach—received the City of Halle (Saale) Volunteer Award. On August 22, 2026, they were named recipients of the “Donkey Walking on Roses” award.
What began in the summer of 2025 as an idea conceived by a handful of people quickly evolved that fall, thanks to the participation of many, into an initiative that has demonstrated—far beyond the borders of Halle—what can be achieved through civic courage. The WIR Festival empowers people to help shape it. With courage, hope, and a clear stance, it creates spaces for solidarity, diversity, collective action, and a vibrant democracy.
The BBK Saxony-Anhalt, which is also part of the WIR Festival, congratulates all those involved in this very important initiative.
