The Federal Republic of Germany’s international fellowships offer highly talented and exceptionally qualified artists who are German citizens or reside in Germany the opportunity each year to further their artistic development through study abroad programs. Depending on the location, recipients can spend three to ten months in Paris, Venice, or Rome, immersing themselves in the local art and cultural scene. The application period has been moved up and begins on October 1, 2026. The application deadline is December 15, 2026.

Who can apply?
The Federal Government’s international fellowships support highly talented and exceptionally qualified artists through study residencies at the Villa Massimo in Rome, the Casa Baldi in Olevano Romana, and the German Study Center in Venice. Artists whose artistic development is still in progress have the opportunity to apply for a fellowship at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in the “Bundesateliers.” All applicants must either hold German citizenship or, at the time of application, have their primary residence or center of creative activity in the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, sufficient knowledge of the language spoken at the place of residence is required.
