Dessau-Roßlau / Lutherstadt Wittenberg, August 2026 – The BBKarium exhibition format, organized by the Professional Association of Visual Artists of Saxony-Anhalt (Berufsverband Bildender Künstler Sachsen-Anhalt e.V.), will launch in August with two new storefront exhibitions in Dessau and Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Accessible around the clock, the BBKarium brings contemporary art directly into public spaces and creates places where art and everyday life intersect.
The new exhibitions feature works by Katharina Gahlert in Dessau and Susanne Klingenberg in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Both artists explore memory, landscape, and social change in very different ways, offering new perspectives on our present.
BBKarium Dessau: Katharina Gahlert
At the BBKarium Dessau, Katharina Gahlert is presenting her latest works in paper and textiles. Her collages tell stories of changing landscapes, of memory, and of the traces left behind by time and nature.
“Empty rivers and dust on our hearts. We can still sense the current that shaped the landscape. The dry riverbed traces the movement of the water. The paper and textile collages tell of what once was, of the memory of it, and of how the present, past, and future flow into one another.”
Katharina Gahlert studied art education at the University of Leipzig, as well as painting, textile arts, and jewelry design at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle. Today, she lives and works in Gimritz in the Saale District.
BBKarium Lutherstadt Wittenberg: Susanne Klingenberg
At the BBKarium in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Susanne Klingenberg is exhibiting collages and assemblages that combine used landscape paintings and historical portraits with imagery from newspapers and magazines. Through deliberate interventions, new visual spaces emerge in which romantic landscapes encounter urban developments and the consequences of human activity.
With subtle humor and surprising combinations of images, the artist challenges familiar ways of seeing and opens up new perspectives on social and political issues. Her works straddle the boundaries between urban art, collage, and guerrilla communication, inviting viewers to take a fresh look at the familiar.
Susanne Klingenberg studied at the University of Applied Arts for Social Issues in Ottersberg, Lower Saxony. In addition to her independent artistic work, she leads workshops for young people and adults in screen printing and street art. She lives and works in the Salzwedel/Altmark region.
The BBKarium
The BBKarium is an exhibition format organized by the BBK Saxony-Anhalt. Since 2021, it has been presenting storefront exhibitions featuring works by professional artists, making contemporary art accessible to the public around the clock in public spaces. The format is now represented at five locations: Halle (Saale), Dessau-Roßlau, Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Magdeburg, and Wernigerode.
Through its window displays, the BBKarium provides low-threshold access to contemporary art and fosters dialogue between artists and the public. It showcases the diversity of the visual arts in Saxony-Anhalt and invites people to discover art right where daily life takes place.
