Dessau artists develop “mechanical shop window”

The Kunstkollektiv Dessau und Umgebung(DuU) would like to cordially invite you to the next exhibition opening at the BBKarium Dessau.

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 6 p.m. at Ferdinand-von-Schill-Straße 3 in Dessau, our presentation machine will once again be set in motion. The results of a workshop held by our group of artists using the technique of risography will be on display.

Risography is a process similar to screen printing that produces unique prints with a characteristic, slightly grainy “vintage look” with slight color shifts. The method is ideal for small print runs and is suitable for sustainable printing thanks to the environmentally friendly inks and energy-saving process.

To further finance our BBKarium next year, we are offering the resulting prints for sale. Produced in very small editions of 10 each, each one is unique and can be purchased for a contribution towards expenses of €35. I look forward to receiving your inquiries via this channel.

The exhibition can be visited at any time around the clock until 31.10. 25 and the machine can be set in motion.

We look forward to meeting you on Wednesday and to passing on this invitation via digital and other channels.

The BBK shop window has been in Dessau since October 2022 – now it is becoming the site of a special community project. The artists’ association “Dessau und Umgebung”, or DuU for short, which has come together under the umbrella of the BBK, is currently working on an unusual idea: the “Mechanical Shop Window”.
This is the prototype of an art presentation machine that will display various works by Dessau artists in the BBK shop window. The special feature: the works of art are moved by a mechanical construction and presented to the public in a new way – a moving gallery in public space. Visitors can set the machine in motion at the touch of a button and thus actively discover the works.
This idea was realized in close collaboration with the creative minds of the Werkstattcafé.

With the “Mechanical Showcase”, the participants are taking up a project that students of the historic Bauhaus were already working on.

From October onwards, monthly changing joint exhibitions will be presented mechanically.

Parallel to the construction of the machine, a report was produced on the Offener Kanal Dessau, which presents the project idea and the artists involved.
