Angela Dolgner in Weimar/Niedergrunstedt

A Tribute to Lyonel Feininger. Photographs by Angela Dolgner, Marking the 70th Anniversary of His Death

Since 2018, Angela Dolgner has been working on a photo series as a tribute to Lyonel Feininger, which now comprises nearly 100 images. She followed in his footsteps, from the Weimar region to the Baltic Sea. Using multiple exposures, she has developed her own visual language, which—through deliberately sought-after overlaps—evokes the crystalline compositions of Lyonel Feininger. She combines multiple realities within a single image, placing architectural structures or details, natural elements, and landscape fragments in a completely new relationship to one another, and uses shifting perspectives to allow the motifs to merge into a new reality.

The exhibition venue in Niedergrunstedt is located right on the Feininger Bicycle Trail. Alongside Angela Dolgner’s photographs, numerous artists from the Weimar region are exhibiting works that engage in various ways with the oeuvre and visual language of Lyonel Feininger.

A limited-edition 2027 calendar will be published to coincide with the exhibition
