Dr. Marlene Trentwedel Foundation Art Prize for Sculpture

The Bremervörde Dr. Marlene Trentwedel Foundation Prize is one of the most prestigious and highest-endowed art prizes in Lower Saxony. Since the last award ceremony took place in 2019, the Bremervörde Art Prize—worth 6,000 euros—is now set to be awarded for the seventh time in 2027.

The “Dr. Marlene Trentwedel Foundation” has existed since 1985. It was established based on a testamentary provision by Friedrich Trentwedel, a resident of Bremervörde who died on March 20, 1984, in memory of his wife, Dr. Marlene Trentwedel. Since then, the foundation has been dedicated to “promoting the visual arts—specifically painting, sculpture, and architecture—in the Elbe-
Weser Triangle.”

The art prize is to be awarded in 2027 in the field of sculpture as part of Bremervörde’s 175th anniversary celebrations. Artists from across Germany are invited to submit designs for a new sculpture that engages with and reflects the history of Bremervörde or the themes of water, the Oste River, the harbor, and Lake Vörder. This sculpture is to be ceremonially unveiled to the public in September 2027 as part of Bremervörde’s city anniversary celebrations. Following the unveiling, the artist will donate the sculpture to the city of Bremervörde, where it will be installed in a public location.
