Print symposium Künstlerhaus 188 in Halle (Saale)

Künstlerhaus 188 e.V. invites an artist with a biographical focus on the state of Saxony-Anhalt to a residency in the workshops of Künstlerhaus 188 in Halle (Saale) as part of the Print Symposium 2026.

The print symposium sees itself not only as a format, but as an attitude – characterized by hospitality, mutual curiosity and the sharing of space, knowledge and experience.
Artists from Saxony-Anhalt can apply. Experience in printmaking is desirable but not a prerequisite.

The focus is on the practical, workshop-based exploration of printmaking processes, which have been recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO since 2018. This will be complemented by experimental approaches. The symposium is designed as an open process in which new works are created over several days, which are understood less as completed works and more as an expression of shared learning and the passing on of knowledge.

The symposium will take place from June 22 to 27, 2026 at Künstlerhaus 188, Böllberger Weg 188, 06110 Halle (Saale), Germany. The workshop-based work phase will be accompanied by the workshop leaders Ilko Koestler and Sarah Deibele. The workshops and basic materials are available to the participating artists free of charge. In addition, an expense allowance of €400 is paid.

In addition to the Open Call, invited artists from Dortmund, Karlsruhe and Chemnitz as well as two other artists from Künstlerhaus 188 e.V. will accompany the print symposium as part of the artist exchange. The artists from the association will undergo the same selection process, but will be chosen by the jury in a separate process.

The final event will be an open studio exhibition as part of the summer festival on June 27, 2026, and an exhibition with all participants is planned for 2027.

The application phase runs up to and including May 18, 2026.
