SCHLOSSMEDIALE Werdenberg Castle / Residency Grant

Call for Applications: 2027 Residency Grant for Audiovisual Artists

From June 17 to 26, 2027, the 14th International FESTIVAL SCHLOSSMEDIALE for Early and Contemporary Music and Audiovisual Art will take place at Werdenberg Castle in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland.

A five-week residency grant gives three individual artists the opportunity to develop new art in a historic setting and to bring it to life in a creative and open environment within the castle’s unique spaces.

The resulting works will be exhibited in the castle’s rooms during the Schlossmediale festival.

Artists should be open to drawing inspiration for their work from the castle and its surroundings. Each year, a theme sets the agenda for the ten-day festival and serves as the basis for artistic exploration.

Presentation and Demonstration

The artwork must be completed and in perfect working order by the festival’s opening day.

The selected scholarship recipients are expected to create the artwork—or parts of it—on site during the scholarship period. They will present the resulting work during the festival through guided tours and discussions. In the run-up to the exhibition opening, the artists also commit to providing insight into their work during at least one guided tour. The possibility of engaging with—and perhaps even involving—the residents of the small town and its surrounding area is conceivable. Living and working in the castle and the town is of great importance for the development of the artistic presentation.
