Many self-employed people in the creative industries not only work in a clearly defined professional field, but also move between different activities, projects and sources of income. This so-called employment hybridity can open up freedom – but also brings challenges.
In this workshop, we will talk about how different jobs and roles can be reconciled, how this diversity can be communicated to the outside world and what needs to be considered in terms of self-organization, control and security. We will also shed light on how multiple work identities can succeed, when they are perceived as enriching – and what ways there are to change or reduce them.
The workshop is aimed at self-employed people in the creative industries, particularly in the fields of design and art, who would like to reflect on and actively shape their professional situation.
Speakers: Anna Spenn(Haus der Selbstständigen), Katrin Mauch(ArbeitGestalten)
Anna Spenn has been working in the HDS Leipzig team since September 2023. She has over ten years of experience as a solo self-employed textile worker. She has first-hand knowledge of the diversity and challenges of self-employment biographies as well as the grassroots work of initiatives and networks. At HDS, she is responsible for the cross-industry networking of solidarity-based interest groups for solo self-employed workers – both locally and nationwide. The aim of her work is to make common issues visible and to strengthen collective structures for better working conditions.
Katrin Mauch is an economist and social scientist and has been working as a research assistant and consultant at ArbeitGestalten since 2021. She analyzes forms of employment such as solo self-employment and marginal employment in Germany from the perspective of “good work”. Together with Cosima Langer, she wrote the study on employment hybridization and its effects on labour, social and tax law.
