Threads of Memory: Synthetic Fibers, Women’s Labor, and Everyday Life in the GDR in Central Germany
For an exhibition on the cultural history of synthetic fibers at the Willi-Sitte-Galerie, students in the master’s program in Applied Media and Cultural Studies are seeking artistic projects. We are seeking documentary, research-based, material-based, or participatory works that explore the social, political, and emotional dimensions of synthetic fiber and textile production, with a particular focus on the realities of women’s labor, marginalized and/or migrant perspectives, as well as on the body, materiality, environmental impacts, and the continuities of production and exploitation extending into the present.
