Lecture with Dr. Doreen Pöschl as part of the lecture series organized by the Friends and Supporters of the Moritzburg Art Museum onfemale artistsfrom HalleBernd Göbel (1942) is one of the most renowned contemporary German sculptors and medalists and enjoys international recognition. As a former professor of sculpture at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, he helped shape the Halle school of sculpture and medal making.
Göbel uses his art as a means of communication to articulate thoughts, take a stand, and convey messages. A critical eye toward society, politics, historical narratives, and the environment is an unmistakable hallmark of his work. At the heart of Göbel’s artistic practice—which includes sculptures, medals, ceramics, and prints—is the human being: their actions, their decisions, and the consequences of those decisions. Göbel consistently analyzes the conventional portrayal of historical and contemporary figures and themes. His works aim to stimulate discourse, challenge viewing habits, and open up new perspectives for viewers.
