Dear art lovers,

Did you know that the old French word “astelier” originally meant “heap of shavings”? This became the name for the carpenter’s workshop, and later for the working space of artists. However, the fascination of the studio does not stem from falling chips, but rather from the unique charm of these spaces, in which artists always stage themselves.

How did the 122 participating artists choose their spaces? Is it the special, diffuse incidence of light from the north that is so suitable for painting? Is it the static properties of the floor and ground-level accessibility that are important for sculpture and metalwork? Is it the proximity – or distance – to your place of residence? Do the surroundings – for example in nature or in the hustle and bustle of the city – make the place special? Or is it the inspiring colleagues who sometimes lend a hand in the community, give feedback or prepare meals?

We hope all visitors enjoy exploring these and other questions as well as talking about art. The artists will be present!

Please inquire about the current regulations regarding corona restrictions from September 10, 2021 here or during the event in the studios on site.

Open studios under pandemic conditions

The BBK Saxony-Anhalt’s hygiene concept for the Open Studios 2021 allows two alternative access regulations (variant A, variant B). Each studio is free to choose which regulation should apply. This may make it somewhat difficult for you as a visitor to keep an overview. We therefore try to provide a clear overview of the most important information here. Both regulations are based on the current containment ordinance of the state of Saxony-Anhalt (download here ).

Variant A) General hygiene rules

For your visit, it is necessary that you observe the general hygiene rules (medical mouth and nose cover from the age of 6, keep your distance, disinfect your hands) and leave your contact details at the entrance. Only a limited number of guests may be in the studio at any one time. If you have symptoms of Covid-19, please stay at home and contact the public health department.

Variant B) New 2G access model

For your visit, it is necessary that you are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or have recovered from Covid-19. A negative test result does not authorize access to the studio. Please show your current vaccination certificate or certificate of recovery at the entrance to the studio. It is also necessary that you leave your contact details at the entrance. There is no obligation to wear a mask or keep your distance with the 2 G regulation. Again, if you have symptoms of Covid-19, please stay at home and contact the public health department.

The 2G access model will apply in these studios in 2021:

Harz foreland

  • Rosi Hoffmann (Wernigerode)

Dessau-Roßlau

  • Jürgen Ludwig

Halle (Saale)

  • Iris Band
