Special edition of the German Medal Art Society

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medaillenkunst e. V. invites all artists to explore the theme of “RESONANCES” in the medium of the art medal. Everything is possible, from decorative to politically and socially critical to purely abstract pictorial inventions. The decisive factor is a reference to current conditions, symptoms and consequences of “resonances” in all their content-related and artistic implications. The versatility of the art medal medium can be explored at medaillenkunst.de. The contributions will lead to a catalog project that will be available and presented at the FIDEM Congress (October 15-19, 2025).

A selection of the medals will also be shown in a special exhibition accompanying the FIDEM Congress at the Munich State Coin Collection; the selection will be made by the curators there and the project staff. By submitting their work, the artists agree to a possible publication of their work in the catalog and all other media as well as a possible presentation in the exhibition. However, all submitted works will be documented on medaillenkunst.de.

The shape of the medal is freely selectable, as are the material and production technique. The decisive factors are the existence of a front side and a back side (even if this does not necessarily have to be in relief) as well as compliance with a maximum size of approx. 15 x 15 x 5 cm (L/W/H). Up to two works per artist can be submitted. Only previously unseen works will be considered.

Participation requires the submission of biographical information (max. 700 characters incl. blank). We also encourage you to write comments on the medals submitted; working photos are also welcome. Unfortunately, no fees can be paid for participation or any costs incurred reimbursed. The deadline for entries is December 1, 2024.
